Feedlot Enterprise Budget

Reminder: This tool helps to determine the cash-flow of ONE animal.

1. Under reciepts enter the expected average finsihing weight of the cattle and live price per cwt. to calucalate gross return.
2. Under variable expenses, enter the pay weight (average weight of cattle purchased), average purchase price for cattle, and any associated purchases costs (trucking, marketing, etc.).
3. For predicted performance, enter average daily gain and feed:gain (F:G) predicted for this group of cattle.
4. Either enter in the your estimated feed cost per head, total feed costs, and cost of gain OR use the Feed Costs Calculator worksheet to calculate. You can estimate feed costs based on percent of DM of the diet or on an as-fed basis.
5. Then enter other livestock costs. Note if bedding is included in your yardage fee (if renting a facility), then do not enter the costs here.
6. For overhead costs, either enter calculated yardage cost from Yardage Calculator or enter enter the value charged to the operation if renting.
7. For the breakeven analysis, enter the average weight of the cattle to be purchased to determine what is the breakeven purchased feeder calf price.
